Awesome Angle : Motherlode 7905′ and South Creek Butte 7670′ (Crescent Mountain)
This Awesome Angle of Crescent Mountain’s highest peak Motherlode 7905′ and South Creek Butte 7670′ (site of an old fire lookout) is taken from the head of South Creek drainage near South Creek Pass, on the far right you can see a small portion of Crescent Mountain’s summit 7816′. Crescent Mountain is a huge land mass with eight lakes and multiple high sub peaks predominantly in the 7k’ range only accessible via off trail travel. The South Fork of the Twisp River and it’s headwaters originate below Crescents North side. I took this photo on the way to visiting Dee Dee Lake and peakbagging McAlester Mountain 7928′ we had previously been up to Lake 6768′ and climbed both Motherlode and South Creek Butte on what was an outstanding fishing and peakbagging trip. At this time there is a large wildfire on Crescent Mountain so the terrain may be forever changed in this section of Washington’s Sawtooth Wilderness.
