Bootjack – Blackjack Peaks and Blackjack Ridge, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA.
September was a rather unsettled weather month here in Central Washington State and we had our first light snow of the Fall, not much but enough with the cold temperatures to signal the changes to come as we hiked briskly up the steep Blootjack Mountain trail Southwest of Leavenworth, Washington in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The forest, peaks, and ridges were quiet and we had the place to ourselves with only a scattered snow flurry the entire day. In the beginning we had planned on running the ridge farther and doing a 20 plus mile loop but as the shorter day wore on with snow, slush, and icy travel both on and off trail it seemed we may have been a little to ambitious in our initial planning so we backtracked on our initial route. The trip photos can be seen HERE.
