Boulder Park

There is an amazing garden in Washington state which was planted by tremendous forces some 17,000 years ago as glaciers from the last ice age receded leaving behind massive boulders called, “Glacial Erratic’s” on the Waterville Plateau. These ancient rocks some millions of years old are clustered with such density that the area has been named “Boulder Park“, an amazing place in terms of geologic history and modern exploration. We were fortunate to have visited the sprawling rock garden about the time the wildflowers peaked hiking through this remarkable place which is seldom heard of even though it’s significance is marked by designation as a National Natural Landmark. Here is a trip report on our visit, and a video outlining the geologic changes that produced the landscape of the Northwest overall including the formation and deposition of erratic’s.
