Cooney Lake / Martin Peak 8375′, Sawtooth Wilderness, WA.
A little snowy for August (we actually did the trip in June) but this was my first backpacking trip of the year and we didn’t have any beta on the road / trail conditions at the time, but the road was open to the TH and the trails were clear the whole way to a mostly snow covered Cooney Lake which sits at an elevation of 7300′ below two 8000′ peaks. We did this as a mid-week and saw no one the entire trip and while the lake was predominantly frozen some trout were caught before we hiked out of camp up to a bench between Switchback and Martin Peaks and scramble Martin 8375′ with spectacular views of the area. This was my second time on Martin but it has been many years maybe a decade or more since I last visited it. I will let the pictures tell the story.
