Gold Ridge Loop, Methow, WA.
The Gold Ridge Loop hike starts from the Foggy Dew CG up Gold Creek Rd. opening up early (sometimes earlier than the road) after parking at the campground walk across the road and access a wide open ridge which climbs very steeply up the Southern exposed side of Gold Ridge and at the right time of the year hike through thousands of feet of Balsam Root, Lupine, Blue Bells, Butter Cups, Yellow Bells etc… with expanding views initially into the Sawtooth Wilderness and once on the ridge top far North into the Pasayten Wilderness as well as many mountains and valleys in the Methow / Twisp / Winthrop area. The ridge top is fairly open with easy travel giving you an idea of the surrounding snow conditions on the East Slopes. There are no water sources so carry sufficient water, there are several variations of this hike but at the ridge top we turned east and hike to East Gold Ridge Peak and had lunch then followed the ridge further East above Oxide and Petes Canyon arcing back down to Gold Creek Rd. which is a steep descent following the road back to the vehicle. The logistics are 8.5 miles and 3300′. Happy Trails !
